Some Tips for the Jyotishi

.Without understanding nakshatras one will never see the chart properly. Just observing sign placements is too general. There is a vast difference between nakshatras in same signs. An astrologer will not be able to get to the root of a person, if they do not utilize nakshatras and their dispositors to see where the journey is taking the person.

.Ancient knowledge relied on oral transmission between guru and disciple. In Kaliyuga there is a reliance on books. Books will not replace the presence of a living teacher. If one has fully awakened their kundalini, then genuine knowledge can be accessed through one's own being. It is only when the jyotish vidya lives inside one without dependance on books, that one has graduated as a jyotishi.

.Ganesh is the presiding guardian of jyotish or astrology and should be worshipped by astrologers. Ganesh is also ruling the muladhara chakra showing the importance between kundalini awakening and development in proficiency at jyotish. A jyotishi who relies solely on mental acumen, cannot be considered a graduate in the science. One cannot impart sacred knowledge unless they are in tune with their own sacred connection to divine.

.No knowledge and no spiritual awareness can be reached without humility. No complicated techniques are required to read a chart perfectly. Humility to divine is what is required to be good at jyotish.

.Varga charts are given alot of attention these days, but it's important to read the rasi chart. This in itself can take a lifetime of practice to read properly, so there is no need to dabble in vargas unless one is an expert in the natal chart.

.Many transit enthusiasts give bad rap to planets passing through their debilitation signs even when retrograde. Most ancients agree that debilitated retrograde can give some opposite results almost like its exaltation placement, so is a good thing to pay attention to when observing transits.

.One should not look at things in isolation in the chart. Just as one cannot really see a person if they just look at an elbow, one cannot give conclusions in the chart based on a single planet. Conclusions about individual effects can only be given after looking at the portrait in its entirety.

.Vedic astrologers are likely to have limitations in their abilities to read the chart in today's age. In ancient civilizations in more advanced age, a king required a score of astrologers to study one event alone or predict a single outcome with real precision. Today, clients should not place unrealistic expectations on the astrologer's ability, nor should astrologers place unrealistic expectations on themselves. Humility and a brahminical approach to life and practice will safe guard astrologers in today's climate, and at least the quality of their work.

.Some astrologers criticize other astrologers for naming a fee for their work and not just asking for donations. In today's age, there is a lack of universal sense amongst people generally so there is no point expecting the donation to be given appropriately alot of times. One is ready to pay a doctor $100 for writing a prescription for the common cold, or a high class model $2000 for walking 10 metres across a carpet a few times. A good jyotish reading has no price attached to it. To peer into the soul destiny of another human being is a priceless artform. The types of fees astrologers in modern day are charging for their work, is always a donation and cannot be considered otherwise .

.A natal counselling jyotishi needs power of advisory talent (5th house, jupiter), ability to see (2nd house), patterns in logical manner ( mars and mercury), communication skill (3rd house, mercury), natural talent (moon rules jyotish), higher or intuitive energies working into the equation (ketu, 9th house,8th house, 12th house involvement) and 7th house (ability to relate to others on one to one). Combinations involving these factors are hard to list individually because combinations can be infinite given the uniqueness of human beings, but these parts of the horoscope combine to produce astrological talent, merit, proficiency. When the 5th house, its lord or 2nd house and lord are involved in inimical or debilitated aspects, it indicates problem with jyotishi's seeing or advisory proficiency. Even if a jyotishi does not have trouble free predictive or visionary skills (say some imperfections with 2nd house, mercury, mars), at least a quality 5th house/7th house combination will encourage one to give advice which is not detrimental to the client. Finally it is that advice, impression which the client will retain from their reading and follow as guidance, which is the most important part of it.
